Welcome to the 40 Something Cowgirls of Kings Mountain, NC!

Here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, we’re a fun-loving and adventurous group of women who know that life only gets more exciting after a certain age! Whether we’re riding through scenic trails, enjoying a local event, or simply sharing good times with great friends, we’re all about embracing the cowboy spirit and celebrating the beauty of life.

Our chapter is a place where laughter is contagious, support is endless, and every day is an opportunity for new adventures. So, saddle up and join us in Kings Mountain—where friendship, fun, and a little bit of country flair make life one unforgettable ride!

    Come enjoy some great music and fun socializing at Coppermine Farms!  Bucky Covington is a Country Music entertainer who placed 8th on American Idol.  The Justin Corbett Band will also be there to start the show.  Gates open at 5:00 pm and the music starts at 6:45.  Bring chairs and coolers for drinks, and there are food vendors available (please no outside food).  Tickets are $30.

    A unique opportunity to continue and improve your horsemanship, while challenging yourself and your equine partner to become a Certified Member of the York County Sherriff's Office Mounted Search and Rescue Team!  Training Sessions are held twice monthly, generally at 8 am on the second Thursday and Saturday and lasts about 3-4 hrs.  Attendants MUST be pre-vetted by the Sherriff's Office prior to bringing their horse for training, but auditors are ALWAYS welcome.  Come learn about what it takes to join the Team!  (we recommend bringing chairs and water)

    Come attend a fabulous show featuring breathtaking horses and equestrianship!  Following in the family footsteps of seven generations, René Gasser has recreated a show for this tour, only previously seen at the famous riding schools in Vienna and Spain.  The Royal Horses of Europe are some of the most celebrated in history, favored for centuries by royalty, equestrian riders and this performance celebrates the tradition, athleticism and grace of these revered creatures.
    For the last twelve years Riding Master, Rene Gasser had been touring both in Australia and abroad with his various productions, which include "Lipizzaner’s With the Stars", "Equestra" and "The Horseman from Snowy River".  Rene is now excited to bring to audiences in North America his production of  “Gala of The Royal Horses”.
    Gala of The Royal Horses will feature performances to include the Lipizzaner Stallions, the Spanish Andalusian, Friesian, and the majestic Arabian breeds, as well as our recently added Quarter horse.  The event is dedicated to showing off the amazing beauty and maneuvers these horses are capable of including the stunning maneuvers once used on the battlefield now known as “The Airs Above The Ground”, as well as  "Roman Riding" - see Gigi Gasser standing atop a pair of horses, with one foot on each horse!  "The Art of Garrocha" and a stunning "Bare Back Riding" performance.

    Come support The Back Country Horsemen of Virginia Highlands Trail Fund and the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail/ Mike's Gap Reroute!  A half mile reroute of a dangerous section of Mike's Gap is going to be reworked in October 2025 and needs help with funding.  Iron Mountain Horse Camp will be hosting a fundraiser for the trails. Saturday July 19th at 6 pm will be having a silent auction, potluck ( please bring a dish and a chair), and live music. Make a weekend of it, and enjoy the beautiful Virgina Highlands trails!  Shoes or boots recommended. Share and invite friends and family, we look forward to seeing everyone.     Witness the thrill of Stadium Show Jumping at the beautiful Tryon International Equestrian Center.  These action-packed nights feature free entertainment such as pony rides, live bands, face painting, rides on a hand-painted Venetian carousel, performers, and more! Grab dinner, a carnival-style treat, your beverage of choice, and enjoy top show jumping competition under the lights in Tryon Stadium with family and friends. Leashed pets are always welcome, too! Paid parking for Saturday Night Lights (cash or card both accepted) will begin at 4pm (no charge prior).  We can plan to carpool or meet up with other Cowgirls, and grab a bite to eat prior to the competition.

    Welcome to the first National Cowboy Challenge Show in NC! NCCA is a non-profit organization which fosters a willing partnership between horse and rider by navigating an obstacle course.  All breeds and level of riders are welcome!  Many of our cowgirls will be camping at the Leatherwood campground and participating or cheering on the competitors.  Friday Aug 8th is a Clinic with Megan Warlick, and the competitions are Saturday and Sunday (8:30 am).  https://www.nationalcowboychallengeassociation.com for more information.  Contact Leatherwood Mountains Resort for camping, stalls or to rent cabins. https://leatherwoodmountains.com/equine/

    The National Cowboy Challenge Association (NCCA) is a Non Profit Organization. Our mission is to foster a willing partnership between horse and rider, navigating an obstacle course with a high level of horsemanship and trust executed at speed.     August 8th at 8:30 am will be a obstacle horsemanship clinic with Magen Warlick. Spots are limited. Cost is $200 for the day. In the evening there will be an informational and judges seminar, all are welcome to attend. Time to be determined.

    Join us for The Cleveland County Hearts and Hooves volunteer orientation and equine safety training. Learn about the program, volunteer positions and how to safely interact with horses. No experience necessary, all training will be provided.   Cleveland County Hearts and Hooves is a non-profit organization that provides Equine Assisted Learning to children with special needs in Cleveland County.  They need volunteers as Horse Leaders and Handlers, Side Walkers, and Arena Helpers.  The program runs through the school year on Tuesday and Thursdays (9:30 to 1:30).  The program utilizes privately owned horses that are assessed as suitable for therapy work.  Our chapter has several members who donate their time and equines to this organization, and we have also supported them with monetary donations.

    Join us at The Kentucky Horse Park and attend the National Mounted Police Colloquium and Civilian Sensory Clinics!   The Colloquium (Tuesday through Friday) is mainly for mounted police officers and members of civilian mounted search & rescue teams and will feature clinics and the competitions. National and international instructors are brought in to instruct both police and civilians in various types of training to include: equitation, jumping, crowd control, and sensory techniques.  Training is always conducted in a controlled environment geared towards improving the confidence of both the horse and rider.  

    The Civilian Sensory Clinics are individual clinics on Saturday and Sunday and are feature national and international instructors who provide obstacle, sensory and equitation training for horse and rider.

    There are campsites with electric and horse stalls available, as well as nearby hotels.

    Join us in attending the Cowboys for Christ Women's Retreat Trail Ride!  Come for the weekend, or just join us on Saturday.  Camping is available at 4B Campground in Troy with access to the Uwharrie National Forest trails.  Boots or shoes are recommended for these trails.
