Boots in the stirrups at 10! Plan to arrive at the equestrian parking lot by 9.
With everyone heading to the new park here are a few tips regarding trails at Palo Pinto Mountains State Park equestrian trails
Shoes or boots highly recommend! Trails can be rough in some areas and there are inclines throughout trail system
If camping in Russell Creek Campground, bring at least a 100 ft water hose . Sites are large with pens in some sites away from water faucets. Be aware of manure disposal.Read campground map so you’ll know how to enter for your site.
Ben’s trail is incorrectly marked as equestrian, its not . Too narrow & one way
When connecting from TuckerLake Trail to Cross Timbers Trail at main trailhead , trail continues behind parking lot bricked wall , just head straight once you pass restrooms and pass the entrance to Raptor Ridge Trail ,which is non equestrian
Coming from Cross Timbers to connect with Tucker Lake Trail , trail is directly behind restrooms
Once you leave the day use parking to ride Cross Timbers Rail Trail, use caution since you cross park roads , also riders will travel on the side of main road to enter trail system , it’s a narrow path so be aware of vehicles & trailers passing
There will be a lot of foot traffic & bikes on trails once open . so be prepared .
As everyone can see from recent Facebook pictures posted , Palo Pinto Trails are beautiful and exciting !
