Sunday at Trace Trails: A Horseback Adventure in Athens, TX

Picture rolling sandy trails stretching across a 1,000‑acre working cattle ranch just outside Athens — over 50 miles of scenic routes winding through forests, meadows, gullies, and creek crossings

Sunrise filters through post‑oak groves, casting dappled light across soft, sandy paths. With your reins in hand, your horse quietly picks its way, hooves crunching on warm soil that drains fast after rain and stays pleasantly firm.

  • There are five main trails:

    • Red Trail (~7.5 mi)

    • White Trail (~6.5 mi) - WE WILL BE RIDING THE WHITE TRAIL

    • Orange Trail (~9.2 mi)

    • Blue Trail (~11 mi)

    • Pink Trail (~16 mi)

    • Combine multi‑colored loops for extra mileage

We will follow ribbons, pie‑plate markers, and colored arrows clipped to posts or fences—some markers may fade, but nearby fence lines, power poles, and roadways help guide your way

Please make sure that you bring plenty of water for the trail as it will be hot, even in the shade of the woods. There are ponds for the horses to drink from and there is a water trough near the parking area.

If you choose to, we will meet at the Bucee's in Terrell around 8:30am to caravan to Trace Trails.

Check-in and pay your trail and camping fees via honor‑box or PayPal—typically $8/day rider, $7/camping night
