Hurricane Helene trail maintenance and clean-up at Whetstone
Most of our cowgirls in North Carolina and South Carolina are Back Country Horsemen, and we have been tasked with opening up all the trails at Whetsone and getting horses and trail riders back in there enjoying our forests. NC and SC equine parks and forests have sustained devastating damage to the horse trails, and the forestry service is overwhelmed with the damage and the man-hours needed to open everything up. So we need to take the time and give back our time and resources to clear, open, and maintain equine trails for our cowgirls, horsemen, and the public.
Camping at Whetstone horse camp or Kes's place, Chatooga Bed and Barn, on the other side of the park. We will be set up as teams, each with a certified Sawyer - I will head the horse camp group, and Mike Kinsey will head the bed and barn group. We will trail ride, have fun, survey trail footing and unsafe obstacles, and safely remove any trees that pose a hazard or are too high to cross over on horseback. We will enjoy food, cocktails, and bonfires every evening. We are encouraging everyone to participate on one or all days. We need cowgirls, spouses, and friends to help clear brush, secure horses, and be safety members for trail cleanup.
Contact Kes Crumpler or her husband Jay Crumpler on Facebook Messenger or her cell at 843-598-0514; anyone wanting to camp on the Adeline side up at their horse Bed & bed will be free to stay for weekend if you are out helping us get our park cleared and back open for equine use.
