Gainesville, TX Shawnee Trail Ride & Parade @ Shawnee Camp

We’re bringing back the historic Shawnee Trail Ride! The Shawnee Trail moved cattle from Dallas to Missouri in the 1800s. The trail crossed the Red River at Preston Point in Pottsboro. In the 1960s, some guys hitched up their wagons and rode horses from Pottsboro to Dallas to open the State Fair. The ride had its 50th anniversary in 2010 and disappeared.The 40SC are bringing it back! We’ll ride through the parade to kick off Frontier Days in Pottsboro and make a 14 mile loop to Hagerman Wildlife Refuge for lunch and back. Camping is available Fri  & Sat nights.

Meet at New Ingles Parking lot,  then caravan over to Cataloochee Valley.  Meet at Cataloochee Parking area by 10am . recommend shoes or boots for trails, some are rocky, believe there are water crossings. Vickie is going to show us the trails. Bring water, snacks, and lunch. I do not know length of trails.

Be sure to show a negative coggins and pay the $5 fee at the station.
Once you have your pass, you will U-turn back out to the highway and turn left. The lake entrance is on the right side 1 mile up the highway.

Forsyth GA & GAHA Fall Ride at Georgia International Horse Park on Oct 5th in Conyers @ Georgia International Equestrian Horse Park in Conyers

RIDE UPDATE:  We will be joining the GAHA (Georgia Arabian Horse Association) on Oct 5th for their Fall Ride rather than riding on Sep 28th as originally planned.  Ride will be at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers GA on Saturday, Oct 5th meeting at 9:00 in the Steeplechase Field across from the hotel and riding out at 10:00.  Alisia Waxman will lead the ride.  Cost is $25 for non GAHA members and $20 for GAHA members with lunch provided.  There will be an endurance clinic beginning at 1:00 as well.  Should be a FUN, FUN day!

Meet at Towstring horse parking area at  9:30 – There are several options to ride long and short rides. Recommend shoes or boots. There are numerous watering holes and crossings. Bring snacks, lunch, and a lot of water. Riders can go up to Steel Bridge/Cabin Flats and back, or others can go up to Grassy Flats or higher up to Charlie Bunion or wherever they want to stop and return down the mountain.

Calling all Cowgirls…. Come join us for the final Long Ear Benefit ride.  This will be the final trail ride that benefits the Ben Richey Boys Ranch in memory of the founder, Bob Grice.. It’s all primatve camping, but there is water troughs for horse, port-a-potties and showers for humans.  3 hot chuck wagon style meals served on Saturday with an auction Saturday evening.  Sunday morning breakfast and worship services for anyone wanting to attend.  All are welcomed, and encouraged to attend.  It’s 60 dollars at the gate, and that covers your meals, coffee, and entry fees in any “games” going on. Trails are easy to moderate in difficulty.

This is a fun ride in the beautifully scenic hills of St Jo on a private ranch. We’ll ride about 2 hrs on the trails  on their ranch, play on their obstacle course, and then ride through the pasture to the back fence of the neighboring winery for lunch. They have a chocolate menu! The cost is $20 for the ranch and whatever you want to spend on food and wine. Negative coggins is required.

Thundering Hills Ranch & Rescue presents their first annual Spook Fest. Dress up your equine partner and participate in our costume contest. Take a peaceful ride down the trails or thru the hay fields. Then try out our spooky obstacle course. We will have hayrides and games for the kiddos and kid at heart. Cozy up by the bonfire with a cup of hot cocoa or coffee with all the fixins purchased from our cocoa/coffee bar or purchase a make your own s’more at our smores bar with several options to make the ultimate smore. Browse our silent auction items, purchase some homemade goodies, take part in some awesome raffles or just come to see all the pretty horses. All proceeds go to Thundering Hills Ranch & Rescue. No rental horses will be available. We do welcome all furry friends/family members, but they must remain on a leash and be on their best behavior. We love the stock show and Rodeo, we practically live there! If you go, take a selfie and we will add you to the roster. Specifically, we will do the following events:

 

Grand Entry 1/Go Pink night -be at trailer parking by 5:30 traditional parade attire

Grand Entry 1/TCU Night purple shirts, black 40SC vest

Grand Entry 1/Rutledge at 11 am performance arrive by 9:00 with long sleeve white shirt, black vest.

Grand Entry 1/Military Appreciation night- black vest and white shirt- we will provide red bandannas

black saddle blankets all days

***GE walkover with police escort is 1 hour prior to performance

*** all performances need pink wraps on front legs and pink wild rag unless otherwise stated.

All long sleeve shirts must be button ups. Arena attire!

Shopping ‘til we drop on MLK day!

you must have a physical copy of both your coggins and a health certificate to get your horse on the FWSSR grounds. No exceptions. They will not accept a coggins from your phone.

We will plan to ride in the Grand Entry so come join us!!

Must be there ready to line up at 7:00 pm to participate in the Grand Entry. Rodeo starts at 7:30.

Tickets are $10/person and kids 5 and under are free. CASH only at the gate. No online ticket sales.  There will be an ATM outside the gate if need be.  However, if you participate in the Grand Entry your admission is FREE!!

We will be participating in full 40SC parade gear. This being: Pink button up 40SC blouse, straw hat, boots, jeans, and pink polo wraps or splint boots on front legs of your horses and if you have the 40SC saddle pad cover you may use that as well.

2024 Wolfe City Rodeo • August 2-3 • 8pm nightly • Mutton Bustin 7:30 before grand entry • Dance Saturday night after the rodeo. Jason Walden & The Alibis Saturday night.
Rodeo is both Friday and Saturday night, but we will plan to attend and ride in the grand entry on Saturday. For those of you who would like to ride in the Grand Entry on Saturday night, plan to be there early in our pink parade gear ready to line up and enter the arena at 8:00pm.
Entry fees are as follows: adults $10, age 12 and under $5, ages 6 and under are free.
